Another Alaska inspired landscape using Prismacolor colored pencil

Thanks for joining me on another Prismacolor adventure!

Prismacolor2-thumbLast time I did an Alaskan and Yukon inspired landscape using Prismacolor colored pencils on basic sketchbook paper. I mentioned that I would be doing another landscape inspired by Alaska and using these same colored pencils but on better paper. This is for comparison purposes.Prismacolor1-2-compareThis time I’m using Strathmore Bristol smooth surface paper from the 300 series and I have to say blending on this surface is much more enjoyable than the previous one. Layers go on very smoothly and colors turn out looking more vibrant. This surface also works very well with the many layers of colors I’ve added to develop texture, in comparison to the sketch paper which could only take a few layers.

The main focuses of this drawing are the clouds and pine trees. I feel like the clouds could have turned out better had I been even more careful laying down the blues tones this time. But my favorite part was creating the pine trees because I had been observing them during our drive through the Yukon and Alaska and was so excited to recreate them on paper. My least favorite part was the yellow-orange trees… mostly because I didn’t observe enough of them to create them realistically. I will conquer them soon enough!

This drawing isn’t perfect by any means but I will keep practicing. I hope it was as fun for you to watch as it was for me to draw. For more posts like this, don’t forget to follow this blog and subscribe to my YouTube channel. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Until next time, bye!
