Art How To Painting

Ask, Seek, Knock

This Christmas I decided to take on this challenge: make as many gifts as I can rather than purchasing them.

So far I have shared with you the 2 Colored pencil portraits (Doggies portrait, and Russell & Emmy). Today I am sharing a Bible verse painting for the Furgason family, who are very close to me. The package is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, so I feel safe sharing this post tonight in anticipation for tomorrow đŸ™‚

The verse is Matthew 7:7, and it reads:

Ask and it will be given to you;

Seek and you shall find;

Knock and it will be opened.

It’s quite a simple piece, but I did some extruded paint detailing on the first letter of each phrase, which spells out “Ask”. Extruded paint is a technique of piping paint on canvas in the same way as piping icing on a cake. After extruding the paint on, I did some knife and brush work to create more intricate swirls to match the vine and swirl detail on the corners.

From a distance, you can see only a bit of detail on the letters A, S, and K, but a closer look will show you much more than ribbed detailing.

Would you like to see how I did this? Have you seen other work that incorporates this kind of extruded paint technique? Please share with me in the comments below!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and that you are counting down to the New Year with those you love.
