Last weekend I had the pleasure of shooting baby announcement pictures for Cara + Charlie. They are our neighbors and some good friends the hubby and I have made in Alaska and I really wanted to come up with something very cute that would reflect their lively personalities. They are expecting next May and I believe it’s going to be a beautiful baby joining a beautiful family!
Since Cara asked me sort of last minute, we didn’t have a ton of time to brainstorm themes and poses, but we both spent some time in Pinterest to find something that spoke to her. She wanted a fall themed picture that had to do with pumpkins and it was perfect for this time of year!
Near our homes there is a covered bridge with rustic feel and a beautiful view of the Alaskan scenery. I was excited for this location because just the week before, I remember how beautifully the autumn red, orange, and yellow intermixed with green pine trees. But when I went to scout the area, I was a bit disappointment to see that all the leaves on ALL the trees were gone. But this wasn’t gong to stop me from giving the Cara + Charlie some good images.
Since the backdrop was a bit desolate and the clouds disappeared giving us harsh light, we focused our images mostly on the bridge. We were off to a good start with a few sitting poses as David seemed to enjoy sitting while holding his baby pumpkin. Next we tried some walking set ups and various other arrangements but David found it most comfortable to sit and play with his pumpkins. This was fine with me because it’s important to consider what the child prefers. If you try to force them to do things they don’t want to, you can forget about good pictures! So we let him sit and play with his pumpkins on the bridge, which resulted in this super cute image:
It was a super fun day of shooting, and it reminded me of how much I missed taking pictures! Although photographing children is challenging, the results are more than worth the effort. I had taken a break with all these moving shenanigans, but now that I’m back I don’t want to stop. If you are in the Fairbanks area and would like your pictures taken, let me know! Shoot me a message on the contact form.
In other news:

- I’m loving Fairbanks and Alaska in general… to my surprise 🙂 I can’t wait to go ice climbing and soak in the Chena hot springs, among other adventures!
